Elements of Competency Performance Criteria
Element: Determine energy sources used in HVACR and their primary function in building energy management programs
  • Obtain and implement work health and safety (WHS) and environmental requirements for the work area
  • Identify passive energy characteristics in the building design and predict their impact on energy management
  • Identify common energy sources, their standard units and local supply authorities, and evaluate for safe usage
  • Establish the operating functions of all principal hardware components in a BMS
  • Identify energy requirements for major system components operating within their normal range
  • Consult with appropriate personnel to ensure that work is coordinated effectively with others

Element: Monitor a building management system
  • Check and monitor equipment status using energy management functions and data from BMS
  • Use BMS software to access, monitor and control system components
  • Check status of monitored BMS for compliance with specified normal operating parameters and environmental requirements
  • Predict the annual consumption of major system components
  • Consult on any contingencies and unexpected situations and take appropriate action based on specifications, codes and standards, and organisational procedures

Element: Conduct an energy audit for a building
  • Determine objectives of a HVACR maintenance management system
  • Evaluate energy costs and tariffs for local supply authorities
  • Determine methodology for the auditing process, including data gathering techniques
  • Prepare appropriate energy audit documentation and implementation strategy for an energy management program in a multi-storey building

Element: Plan efficient energy management operations
  • Incorporate requirements of an energy efficient plant control system into building operation procedures, including suitable contingency and suitable risk management procedures
  • Compile plant operating annual reporting timetable
  • Advise on staff awareness-raising policy for energy conservation in a multi-storey building

Submission Requirements

List each assessment task's title, type (eg project, observation/demonstration, essay, assignment, checklist) and due date here

Assessment task 1: [title]      Due date:

(add new lines for each of the assessment tasks)

Assessment Tasks

Copy and paste from the following data to produce each assessment task. Write these in plain English and spell out how, when and where the task is to be carried out, under what conditions, and what resources are needed. Include guidelines about how well the candidate has to perform a task for it to be judged satisfactory.
Copy and paste from the following performance criteria to create an observation checklist for each task. When you have finished writing your assessment tool every one of these must have been addressed, preferably several times in a variety of contexts. To ensure this occurs download the assessment matrix for the unit; enter each assessment task as a column header and place check marks against each performance criteria that task addresses.

Observation Checklist
